We’ve got a good few new tunes in the box for Micro Kitchen at The Village tonight. There’s more than a whiff of Berlin in the air with tasty new material by Moritz von Oswald Trio and Berghain resident DJ Ben Klock. It’s the Function & Regis remix of a recent Klock tune that has us hooked here at Kitchen HQ. Also on for tonight, a Peter Visti double-whammy: Craig will bring Visti’s Kitchen-proven ‘Yes Maam’ and Christian will drop the man’s new ‘Late Night Balearic Monster’ into the mix.

We’ve got a new dancefloor killer for tonight. ‘La Cocina Del Cabron’ will add some Ibiza party flavour to The Village tonight. The Afro styled percussion and an infectious vocal sample just make you want to dance. ‘La Cocina’ means ‘the kitchen’ so we couldn’t pass this one by. Swiss DJ Lee van Dowski and Glimpse are the team behind ‘La Cocina’, which is easily the funkiest thing to come out of Switzerland since Yello.
In fact, that 12″ is so good, we’ll be playing the ambient flip ‘Arcenciel’ by Techno bods Luciano and Guy Gerber as well. Aptly titled, arc en ciel means rainbow, it makes an atmospheric warm-up tune for the early hours of Micro Kitchen.

I think we’re onto something here. At this stage we play both sides of the ‘Let’s Post Funk!’ EP by Débruit a couple of times a night to big smiles and swaying booties all around. Must be good stuff, then. What is it all about? Well, since you’re asking, it’s some young guns ruffling up R&B beats and adding curiously exotic synth melodies to the mix. Think Prince on horse tranquilisers and you get the picture.
‘Soles Sweat’ on the flip side is the first track we played by Débruit as it’s a bit easier to get into with its straight Miami booty bass. The A-side ‘I’m Goin Wit You’ features Om’Mas Keith on vocals, nuttier than psychedelic 70’s funkateer Bootsy Collins but smooth enough to melt peanut butter. Two killer tracks for all who like their operators smooth as Isaac Hayes or Snoop Dogg.

I got a few texts asking what that record was that had everybody reaching for their phones last Tuesday. Since there are probably more people out there who got thrown by the annoying ringtone from out of nowhere…
Here is the mystery’s solution: It’s Major Lazer with ‘Hold The Line’.
It’s a massive new 12″ on Mad Decent Records, produced by the madman Diplo himself and bringing an extra large helping of Jamaican Dancehall style to the party.
The surf guitar intro is worth playing this alone. Rewind!

The Micro Kitchen DJs now spin their vinyl in the window of The Village, practically right smack in the middle of Wexford Street. It’s a great spot and very social. So don’t be shy, say hello when you’re coming through the door next time.
Standing out here rather than in the back of the venue really puts you into the middle of the action. Hmm, I can see pictures of a Micro Kitchen float in my mind, driving up and down Wexford Street/Camden Street with the speakers pumping out some choice tunes. The humble beginnings of Dublin’s very own Love Parade or pure madness? Answers in the comments section, please.
Thanks to all who stopped by for a shuffle on the dancefloor last night. Looks like the oldies caused a good deal of the dancing action so there’ll be more scratchy old 7″ singles next week in between the daunting slabs of Dubstep wax and the House goodies.

Get a flavour of hot Soca with brand new tracks by the Southside Steppers and Cooly G. We’ve got the Steppers’ rockin’ ‘When She Moves’ and ‘Super Storm Decay’ for tomorrow’s Micro Kitchen night as well as Cooly G’s mellow, much hyped ‘Love Dub’.
Check out Micro Kitchen tomorrow night at The Village, from 10 ’til late.

Micro Vinyl
Thanks to all of you who popped into The Village yesterday for the first Micro Kitchen night. Our ’soft launch’ went smoothly and we’re looking forward to play some more new tunes for you next week.
Last night, Craig & Christian played a good few new tunes by Efdemin (both of the magic Martyn remixes, actually), Wareika, Joker and more. As a bit of a Dublin exclusive we also dropped ‘Wind It Up’ by Om’mas and Mark Pritchard on Hyperdub, which will be out at the end of the month.
The new remixes of Animal Collective’s ‘Summer Clothes’ by LD and Zomby also got a good few airings.
This being National Jacko Week, we simply had to play some Jackson tune at Micro Kitchen. After carefully considering all requests, the choice fell on the ‘Real Bad’ mashup on Bstrd Boots.
There you go. The Micro Kitchen will be open again for business next Tuesday, 7th July. Miss it at your own peril…

freaky dancing
‘You’ll always find me in the kitchen at parties’ (Jona Lewie)
Where’s the action at your parties? That’s right, in the kitchen. The most interesting people, the best chat and the coolest music all happen in the kitchen.
Micro Kitchen at The Village aims to do to clubland what the kitchen does to parties. It’s ‘Micro’ because The Village has an intimate feel. It’s ‘Kitchen’ because that’s where you cook up new things.
Micro Kitchen believes that a dash of new tunes spices up old favourites. Micro Kitchen does not rely on a diet of the same old songs warmed up week after week. The Micro Kitchen DJs serve up records fresh off the plane, be it Dubstep from the streets of South London or Techno from a basement in Berlin.
Other tunes you may already be familiar with as old favourites are still on the menu and, just like a good wine list, some of our records have matured for 30 years more. It’s all in the mix. One thing’s for sure, you will hear some sounds here that you won’t get anywhere else in Dublin.
The Micro Kitchen resident DJs Craig (City Discs) and Christian (Tuneraker) will dig through box loads of new releases to bring you the best new music. Both Craig and Christian are mad vinyl collectors who can serve up some tasty rarities and revive old favourites to bring the temperature in the Kitchen up to boiling point. International guest DJs will bring their own flavours to the Kitchen in future months.
Micro Kitchen launches on Tuesday, 30th June 2009, at The Village, 26 Wexford Street, Dublin 2. After that, Micro Kitchen will open its doors every Tuesday from 10:00pm to late.
Bring an open mind and get ready for some freaky dancing. The Micro Kitchen team aims to surprise your musical taste buds and wishes you ‘bon appetit’.
